It is just about a month since we produced "A Christmas Carol" and thankfully the end of that run brought us to Christmas break from school. As director, I for one certainly needed the down time to recharge my proverbial batteries.
I have to state that the students involved in the show went above and beyond my expectations. Our only disappointment from our show is that our little Tessa (blog post "She's Gonna Dance") became rather ill during production week and needed to have lots of rest to recoup. We certainly missed her, but enjoyed all that she taught us behind the scenes.
As for how the audience perceived their performance.... I'll let the following text message received during the show speak for itself.

Ms. Bryce, I wanted to complement you and your crew on the most professional and classy performance i have seen in years. Thank you for the hard work this production clearly represented.
These are the moments that we as performers, set crew, tech crew, and directors tend to live for. From the moments the lights went up to the moment the last light faded out, our audience seemed to delight and engage themselves in the story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his tale of haunted night.
While I have many wonderful memories that I shall cherish from the adventure, I believe the one that tugs at my heartstrings the most is the final bows. When the entire ensemble was gathered on stage, students involved with this show spanned the width of the entire gymnasium from wall to wall (and we got a big expanse of about 100 feet)! Each one of those kiddos showed that when challenged, they could pull out greatness from within and become something truly spectacular.
Now that the break is over and our new semester has begun, it is time to think ahead with our next show. "Treasure Island" will be sighted in April, but we've already gotten the voyage sailing with all the prep behind the scenes.... auditions are coming next week, and soon on it's heels there are the countless hours of rehearsal, the set construction days, the costume creating, the character development and oh so much more!
Thank you to everyone who has, is, and continues to support the work here at campus with these kiddos. There is no way that I could do any of this without you!
